How Dare Steven Moffat Ruin Doctor Who

Who does Moffat think he is? Bringing on John Hurt as some “forgotten” Doctor from the Time War? Is it possible for there to be a bigger fuckery of continuity? After all, he’s just the temporary showrunner. He doesn’t own Doctor Who. It’s been around long before him, and will likely be around long after he’s gone. What gives him the right to change the show so dramatically? It should be exactly the same as it always has been.

After all, it’s not like John Wiles and Donald Tosh had any right to say the Doctor could experience a renewal and become another younger man.

After all, it’s not like Louis Marks had any right to bring back the Daleks after their ‘final end’ in “The Evil of the Daleks”.

After all, it’s not like Robert Holmes and Terrance Dicks had any right to name the Doctor’s homeworld “Gallifrey”.

After all, it’s not like Terry Nation had any right to say Daleks were mutated Kaleds created by Davros, and not Dals who had been mutated by radiation after an atomic war.

After all, it’s not like John-Nathan Turner had any right to introduce the Valeyard as an amalgamation of the Doctor’s darker nature.

After all, it’s not like Matthew Jacobs had any right to say that the Doctor was half-human on his mother’s side.

After all, it’s not like Russell T Davies had any right to turn the Doctor into a genocidal maniac who eradicated the Time Lords and the Daleks and destroyed Gallifrey in the Last Great Time War.

Clearly the show must always be what it was meant to be in the beginning. An children’s educational program about a crotchety old man who travelled in time with his granddaughter and two school teachers.

Oh, wait….

The point is, things change and writers change things. If the show doesn’t get pushed in different and new directions…then the show dies and becomes stagnant.

It’s fine to not like the changes that are made. That’s an individual’s privilege and we all have different tastes. But it’s fucking ridiculous to claim that Moffat has “no right” to change anything about the show he’s currently in charge of.

I was prepared to be pissed off at this, and then I was pleasantly surprised.

Am I the only one who assumed that Hurt represents the final doctor? The one responsible for Trenzalore?

If Hurt was a past Doctor, then Eleven would HAVE the memories of what lead Hurt to make the decision he did. He would know the rationalization. If he commited the ‘crime’ in the past, he would NOT be able to take on the name “The Doctor” again.

If Hurt is from the Doctor’s future, then Eleven would NOT understand what would lead him to such despair. Hurt would be a stranger to him.

Remember, at that point, the Doctor was inside his own timeline, including all his future days.

From what I read, Hurt is going to be the “real” 9th Doctor. This really upset me at first.

Hurt is the one who committed genocide on his own people in the Time War.

However, from 11’s reaction, this was not done in the name of The Doctor. So while Hurt may have been a past incarnation of The Doctor, he was not “The Doctor.” If you follow me.

At least thats how I see it.

Im betting the 50th anniversary will be about the “dark incarnation” getting loose and the Doctor needs to put him back in that Limbo place. Getting the best help he can, from himself.

Beautiful.

Same man. Different face.

I say dont reveal the Spoliers only if Steven Moffatt agrees to not make John Hurt the “Original 9th Doctor”

Rose joined Torchwood; Martha joined UNIT; Sarah defends the earth; Ace runs a charity; Tegan fights for aboriginal rights; Harry and Nyssa cured diseases; Jo is an activist….and Amy writes children’s books.

I guess the 11th Doctor doesn’t have quite the same impact on his companions as earlier Doctors.

Be grateful for small mercies: at least Amy didn’t get left with just being a fashion model.

Granted, where she was stuck didn’t have much in women’s rights, but that didn’t mean there weren’t opportunities.

I’m not bashing, I’m glad Amy found her niche. I’m just sad that yet again Moffat wasted a potential. Amy had the personality to make an impact on women’s rights. She had the ambition and stubbornness to be whatever the heck she wanted, no matter what society said. Instead she gets put in a very ‘feminine’ role. See the problem?

As a writer of books like Amy’s, I kind of find this a little…I don’t know, offensive isn’t the right word, because I’m not angry. I just don’t understand the way of thinking?

Why is that considered wasted potential? It’s not like Amy can’t shape the thought processes of young people and have just as much an impact.

It’s also flying in the face of everything the Doctor has ever said about “ordinary” people.  There is no such thing as an unimportant person, so why  does it matter what she does or doesn’t do?  She’s important, whether you think she is or not.  That’s not something you get to sit in judgement on.

At least Amy still has her memories, unlike a previous companion from a previous Doctor that everyone loves.

And Amy was always a forceful personality. She would be loud and fierce no matter where she went.

Think about 11’s effect on Rory.

Fandom. A short summation.

I just figured out why HOUSE is blue in House of Leaves.

Probably the only thing better than sex dreams is Doctor Who dreams.

Though I was hanging out with Matt Smith and not on some kinda crazy adventure with the Doctor.

But still…

So I did this at work today. I got to answer “Why do you have those one your arms?” all morning.
My reply was “Do you watch Doctor Who?”
None of them did.
Until my co-worker came in for her shift. She saw my arms.
She freaked out a little.
Or a lot.
Worth it.

On Saturday at Megacon I cosplayed all eleven Doctors

It took about four months to make and plan everything and about 12.5 hours to execute (9am to 10:30pm allowing an hour for lunch)

Happy 50th anniversary, Doctor Who
